Dental Implants
Dental implants provide you with permanent, non-removable replacement teeth and are an attractive option to traditional dentures. You may wish to consider dental implants if you have had one, several, or all your teeth removed due to disease or decay or have lost them in an accident. Unlike other types of dental restorations, implants replace the roots of your tooth as well.
How Dental Implants Work
The gums and jaw bone that will support your new dental implants need to be healthy enough to withstand the procedure. To ensure this, Dr. Jason Dulgarian completes an oral examination prior to placing the titanium screws in your jaw bone that will support the new implants. The examination and rod placement typically takes place during the same appointment. You then need to allow adequate time for your jaw and gums to heal before Dr. Dulgarian can attach the replacement teeth. This may take up to several months.
When Dr. Dulgarian feels confident that enough healing has taken place, he inspects your mouth again and then attaches your new dentures to the tiny rods in your jaw bone. As long as you brush and floss your teeth daily and don’t put unnecessary pressure on the new teeth and implants, they may last as long as two decades. Consistent follow-up care with Citrus Valley is also important to increase the longevity of your dental implants.
Advantages of Choosing Dental Implants Instead of Traditional Dentures
Traditional dentures and dental implants both disguise tooth loss and allow you to eat and speak normally again. However, implants offer you several advantages that typical dentures can’t provide. These include:
- You can bite down harder without fear of breaking the implants or having them come loose
- Clearer speech
- Dentures attached to dental implants appear more natural and are a closer match to the shade and shape of your natural teeth
- Dental implants are non-removable, so you don’t have to worry about soaking them overnight or buying special cleaning product
- Permanent implants help prevent your other teeth from shifting into the spot left open by the missing teeth
Please contact Citrus Valley at your convenience to schedule an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Dulgarian. He will discuss the different types of dental implants as well as what you can expect during and after the procedure.
